Cartier | Ocean's 8

Ocean's 8 is one of the top summer films this year featuring some of the biggest female stars in Hollywood such as Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna. The whole plot of the film revolves around the main cast attempting to rob one spectacular piece of jewellery worn by Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) at the Met Gala: the Jeanne Toussaint created by Cartier. The necklace was named after the female creative director of Cartier in the 1930's, as a nod to Ocean's 8 female focused cast.

As a maison, and throughout our history, we cherish our collaborations that bring visionaries together to celebrate individuality, diversity, and to empower bold and fearless women.
— Arnaud Carrez, Cartier’s international marketing director

The bespoke piece was created exclusively for the film, resulting in eight weeks’ intensive work at the Cartier high jewellery workshops in Paris. The necklace is inspired by the 1931 piece crafted for Maharaja of Nawangar by Jacques Cartier. Unfortunately that necklace no longer exists today, so Cartier artisans worked from sketches and photographs from the archives, creating the Jeanne Toussaint from cubic zirconia and white gold.
